Het Irish Festival viert in het 50-jarig jubileumjaar van De Tamboer zelf ook een jubileum: de tiende editie! In 2008 organiseerde programmeur Rudie Reinders de eerste editie, sinds 2015 heeft Baukje Joosse het stokje als hoofd festivals overgenomen. In deze rubriek halen we herinneringen op aan tien jaar Irish Festival.
Programmeur Rudie Reinders heeft een stevig netwerk opgebouwd in de Ierse folkmuziek. Hij heeft in de loop der jaren bands zien groeien, van een klein podium in De Tamboer naar het hoofdpodium. Een goed voorbeeld hiervan zijn the Kilkennys, die vanaf het begin af aan met enorm veel enthousiasme door Hoogeveen zijn ontvangen en nu ook wereldwijd steeds meer succes hebben. Rudie is er het meest trots op dat hij erin is geslaagd om the Dublin Legends naar het festival te halen in 2013, maar noemt ook meteen de steevaste aanwezigheid van twee publieksfavorieten: Dubh Linn en Keltic Kats. “Die twee bands zijn eigenlijk een beetje ontwikkeld tot onze Irish huisbands, dat is hartstikke leuk!”
Dubh Linn en Keltic Kats worden al edities lang door het publiek ieder jaar opnieuw weer met open armen ontvangen en steevast genoemd in de publieksenquêtes op de vraag: welke band wil je volgend jaar zien?
Paddy Leonard komt ook in 2017 nog een keer met Dubh Linn naar De Tamboer. Hij is daarmee bij 9 van de 10 edities aanwezig geweest, in de formaties Whiskey Still (3x), Finnegan’s Wake (3x) en Dubh Linn (3x). Paddy Leonard aan het woord!
1. You’ve attended 9 of the 10 editions of the Irish Festival. Can you tell our audience how you feel about this?
"I feel privileged and honoured, to have been there for 9 out of the 10 years of the Irish festival. The first two years was with whiskey still, and the last seven was with the strongest group I have ever been with, with Declan, Sean and myself as Dubh Linn. So all in all 9 years of great fun and memories!"
2. Can you name a favorite performance or festival edition in Hoogeveen?
"There has been some great acts that have tread the boards of De Tamboer , but I suppose my favourites are the likes of The Keltic Kats , the Kilkennys, Drops of Green , Eleanor McEvoy, High Kings, Dublin Legends. Just great to be on the same billing as all these great acts!"
3. Can you share some good memories you have of De Tamboer?
"One of the best additions to the festival, I think was the introduction of the Irish dancers John, Ciara and Keenan. It brought the whole Irish festival feeling to the people of Holland, and I think they really enjoyed it."
